From Mario to Makhaza

Today we’re going to talk about how to adapt a game to create our own one. The one we’ll be playing with is the classic Nintendo platform game Super Mario.

Because it’s quite a complicated game, we’re not going to code everything from scratch. Instead we’re going to focus on making our own artwork while we work with a library of code, which has conveniently been created for us by someone else.

We’ll be trying PJs Game Engine. Look through PJ’s explanation carefully. Try to play all the different stages of the game and see how they work

We’ll just be making a new  ‘skin’ for the game. If we change the code we would call it a mod.

We’ll start today by seeing how the game is put together.

These are just some of the things we need to create. If you can add something to the list, post it in the comments.

Finally everyone can code a background by finishing the Hour of Code tutorial
