Shuttleworth Funded

Great news for Ikamvacoders…

“Marion Walton was nominated to receive a Shuttleworth Foundation Flash Grant in 2014. The grant was given in recognition of her support of her work researching interdisciplinary approaches to coding and digital literacy. Marion has developed these approaches in her award-winning project, Creative Code, which received a best pitch award as a recognised project during Cape Town’s World Design Capital Event in 2014.  The Shuttleworth Foundation funding model rewards brilliance and new ideas, and Flash grants are awarded to ‘impressive change agents’. The project bucks the trend where introductory coding curricula have a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) focus. These often fail to connect with youth culture and the arts, and can also be culturally exclusive.”
